Then from Lena we got this submission.  It should be noted that her husband has a webcomic called “Heroes of Lesser Earth” (aka HoLE), and you should check them out.  Here’s a linky:  HoLE!

Then from the Nobody’s Listening Podcast comes this entry.  Again, check out This Link to see what they’re up to over there!

And finally for those still working, here’s a screenie of our characters on their mounts:

Rorlins would like to note, however, that he no longer has the headband.  He now has a the “floppy hat” style hat and will probably keep it forever….

Episode 12: Show notes

Tuesday, March 27th, 2007

The big topic of the week was on the subject of “Surviving your first 30 minutes in a RP guild”.

Some clips from the email bag to share:

From Pithius’s emails about knowing your role: Specifically with Adeldia and her hunter she just needs to understand 1 thing, as a hunter you do much more damage through your ranged weapons that you will do with melee. So long as you understand this, there is absolutely nothing wrong with charging in and smacking a creature as long as it dies and you don’t. Every class has melee weapons for a reason. Even with a mage from time to time I will charge in and start swinging with my staff when it is “safe” to do so just because I want to change things up. Play your way and don’t take crap from others who think they know how you should or should not do things.

From Bronson on the subject of faction mounts: As an undead rogue, I loath the humans! I was not going to ride some undead version of their mounts. So, I went to the starting area for the orcs and did ALL the quests that an orc had to give. I got close and was loosing hope on getting my wolf mount. Another friend told me about the War Effort.

The War Effort lets you collect leather, ore, herbs and band aides. You turn them in and you will get REP with whoever you turn the items into. Also, I turned in cloth in Orgrimmar. Some NPC that was like a tailor or something, cannot remember. When I hit level 40, I could not run fast enough to get my wolf. A rogue sitting on a wolf mount… COOL!!! I hope this helps you get your saber.

Senkakusha’s comments on Irish Music: When I think of remade Irish music, the bands I really come to think of is Dropkick Murphy’s and Flogging Molly. Don’t know if you’ve heard of them, but the Murphy’s are pretty much hardcore punk, that remake older folk songs and newer ones. They are a great band to drink to, if you don’t mind getting overly pumped and tend to feel the need to headbang and break stuff while intoxicated (somewhat guilty at times, except for the breaking stuff part.) Flogging Molly is more mellow, with more of a traditional sound with a little modern guitar and drums thrown in the mix. Check them out if your into the irish stylings of music. I think you’ll like them

So some help to you: Flogging Molly is found here while Dropkick Murphys are here

Episode 11: Show Notes

Sunday, March 18th, 2007

We talked about a lot of good emails this week but a two really stuck out as big.

On the subject of “Should I be worried if my spouse games a lot without me?” we had lots of statistics so Adeldia makes some of the links to her various sources available here:

http://www.probe.org/content/view/1191/173/ http://www.menstuff.org/issues/byissue/infidelitystats.html http://blog.womenforhire.com/2007/02/flirting-at-the-office.html http://www.newsdaily.com/Quirks/UPI-1-20070205-16034900-bc-britain-flirts.xml

Also of note is the Daedalus project: http://www.nickyee.com/daedalus/ which is a complete survey of research data into the nature of online gaming and relationships.

We wanted to send out some congrats to Kris on making level 70! Also welcome to Spheniscus and welcome to Sterling!

Oh, and check out /Rolecraft for Jim’s new article on “What is Roleplaying?” Good read there: http://rolecraft.wordpress.com/

And watch http://www.anomalypodcast.com/ for Jen and Angela’s podcast as a pair of geeky girls talk about all things geek.

Speaking of watching, Lorim’s new podcast focusing on RPing is coming soon. We’ll keep you posted on where to find it once she’s up and running.

And finally a link to Blackthorn: http://www.blackthorn1.com

Episode 10: Show Notes

Tuesday, March 13th, 2007

We started out a little out of order, going right into the meet of the show. This week was pretty self contained so there are few notes to post but here are some we wanted to get out:

  • Congrats to Sentarius who correctly noted that to complete the Kessel Run in “less then 12 parsecs” you have to be talking about minimizing travel distance, not time. Thus Han Solo is bragging about his skill as a pilot and navigator.
  • Shoutouts to Tinglespark even if you’re no longer with our guild.
  • Next week we are likely to be talking about WoWmances gone wrong. If you’d like to weigh in how you approach a significant who’s spending too much time playing with other people we’d love to hear your thoughts at theelfanddwarf@yahoo.com . Specifically we’ll be responding to a comment from a guildmate about his situation. His wife and he both play, but they play seperately. They sit in the same room but have their own guilds, parties and raids. He is starting to get worried she’s spending too much time with “other men” and asks if he’s being naive to think that something won’t develop.

Your thoughts and ideas prior to our show would be very welcome.

Also feel free to check out our guild forums if you’d like to comment on the show in a place that others can comment as well.

Episode 10: The Elf and Dwarf and Elf

    Monday, March 12th, 2007

This week we are joined by Avonna, Adeldia’s mom, who not only tried her first MMO, but her first ever video game. After a few hours of play we all sat down and talked about what we thought of the experience, if she’s hooked, and how approachable WoW is to really any kind of player. This show turned out a bit more conversational then usual, but it was a great deal of fun to record and Avonna provided some intersting dirt on Adeldia’s youth. Of course another trivia contest inspired by ingame happenings comes and we announce last week’s winner.

    Episode 9: Shownotes

    Sunday, March 4th, 2007

    Shoutouts:

  • Witchdocta aka Jim Moreno over at /Rolecraft. He’s got a great blog set up to provide RP pointers, discussions of RP mods and other such topics.
  • To Sterling’s newest recruit Enno from the WoWAddons vidcast. Every week, he Lumid, and Lorim sit down and review the latest mods out there for WoW and put it all in a fun video format. Thanks again for the bumper to start off this week’s show!
  • This week’s topic was on mistakes that RPers often make and some ideas to help you avoid them yourself as you RP and as you write up your character.

    Server news:

  • Orillion of The Phalanx of Perdition is planning a massive World PVP/ RP event for March 17 starting at 6pm server time. The Horde will be attempting, en masse to sack the town of Menethil Harbor while the Alliance will attempt to hold them at Thandol Span. The link to the event can be found here.
  • Game News

  • Nerfs Incoming! Blizzard announced at the start of last week a large series of “balancing changes” coming to the Public Test Realm. They’ve already made some changes but the most recent can be found here: Official Page.
  • The Armory Beta: See your character online anytime with the new Armory! Even check out Rorlins and Adeldia!
  • Contest Winner! Congrats to Kotal of Blackwater Raiders for correctly identifying the character of Lt. Cmdr. Tom Dodge in the movie Down Periscope played by Kelsey Grammer. Interesting enough, Mr. Grammer did not graduate from college but was issued an honorary degree from the University of Massachusetts Amherst in 2001

    Episode 8: Shownotes

    Monday, February 26th, 2007

We made it to 40! Go us!

    Shoutouts:

  • Congrats to Lockewood of House Ravengarde on your rise to 70!
  • This week we talked about the rise to 40 and some of the things we learned a long the way. Some short forms of the major lessons we learned:

  • Meeting stones require two people. You have one click the stone, the other the portal. Anything else won’t work and will make you feel stupid.
  • Raw materials are worth more than crafted items at this level range. If you want money, it’s all about gather and sell. The AH is not optional.
  • PVP can be fun, even if the Alliance couldn’t buy a win in the Arathi Basin.
  • Server news:

  • On the 3rd of March, at 8pm server time (on Blackwater Raiders), Telanar and Verlant request the honor of your presense in the Exodar as they exchange vows.
  • Our email bag was full this week so here are some exerpts and comments (and links!):

First a thank you to everyone who wrote in to share that the Naga are magically mutated elves. That explains the deviation from the 4-limb and 6-limb body plans.

We got an email from Ryan Prater where he writes in response to Adeldia’s “I can’t solo a priest” comment: Adeldia made a comment that alluded to the priest not being much of a solo class. I’ve played a priest up to 70, and at lower levels, I can agree that it can be a bit painful. My suggestion is to stick with a shadow spec and soloing isn’t bad. Once you get in the 20s or 30s leveling gets better and once 40 (shadowform) hits, you are golden. I primarily play my priest to heal and you can still heal fine as a shadow spec. When you get into some of the Outlands instances it can be tough though. I converted to holy/disc and healing now is much more efficient. Let me know if you have any questions as I find this class to be very enjoyable.

He also gave a pretty complete list of recommended mods. We’ll check these out this week and report on them:

  • Bongos - UI Mod. We use Bartender 3 to similar effect though the maker has recently removed the cooldown timers so he recommends OCC for that.
  • CTRaid - a raid addon for FuBar
  • Perl - another UI mod that makes for nice toolbars
  • Auctioneer - It’s not in release yet so use at your own risk.
  • Necrosis - a Warlock-centric mod
  • Another listener Anachan on Warsong writes in response to our comments about girls grouping: I thought I was deficient or something!! But now I know I’m perfectly normal, lol. I am one of those women who is afraid to group for fear of ruining it for everyone, and one of those who just doesn’t like to have anyone tell me how to play. (Especially if it comes from my husband, lol.) I feel a lot less badly about myself, now that I know it’s not just me.

We talked a lot about this and how easy it is when you think you really know how to do a quest, to get into a “do it my way” mentality. Even we feel into the “no, no, stop having fun your way; play our way” mode this weekend in the Deadmines.

Last we asked a trivia question: Who created the character on which Bhag’thera (the black panther in Stranglethorn Vale) is based on?

Congrats to Ryan Prater for coming up with the right answer: Rudyard Kipling. He created the character of Bagera in his story collection The Jungle Books, which featured tales based on his travels in India. It includes the story of Riki-tiki-tavi, one of Rorlins’s favorites. Send us your info and we’ll get your map out to you post haste.

This week there were two new contests, remember that the trivia needs to be to use by Saturday of this week, and you have two weeks for the bio contest.

All contest entries should be sent to theelfanddwarf@yahoo.com

    Episode 7: Show Notes

    Tuesday, February 20th, 2007

The show opened with the announcment that we have helped charter a guild on the Blackwater Raiders server “Sterling”. It is a moderate RP (guild chat is in-character), casual play guild with a focus on grouping, instances, having fun, and if we get high enough, on raiding. If you’re interested in more, contact Garnil (the GM), Rorlins or Adeldia in game, or visit the Guild Hall.

Shout outs were few besides that with a wave to Naetylia who said “hi” to Rorlins.

We talked about how to find RPers so here some links to points of interest we talked about:

  • The WoW Official Role Play Forum
  • The WoW Official Guild Recruitment Forum
  • The WoW Offical forum for Blackwater Raiders Server - As a RP server a lot of guilds look here for potential recruits or advertise that they have openings. It’s a great place to start your quest for a RP guild
  • Ui.Worldofwar.net - Rorlins Prefered Mod Site
  • FlagRSP2 RP Mod
  • My Roleplay
  • Battle Cry - This didn’t get a show mention but it’s one of our favorite mods to help with RPing. It allows you to set a massive variety of “cries” whenever an ability or spell is used. For example when you activate stealth, you can set it to automatically say “I’m outa here” 50% of the time.
  • The Found on the Forums segment was a short discussion of people who can’t seem to follow the naming rules for the game, let alone those for an RP server, while Adeledia’s Animals of Azeroth was all about “could that fly”. Comments are welcome of course if you want to email us at theelfanddwarf@yahoo.com

And we closed with our first trivia contest. Be the one first to email us the correct answer and you have a chance to win a beautiful complete map of Azeroth!
