Now that we’re free of the holidays we are coming back.  Look for us next week on the 21st of January to return with a show about “Geek Christmas” the best geek gifts we got, the best geek gifts we gave, what we wanted to get and what hope for the new year.

And as an added bonus we will be streaming the show LIVE into Second Life while we record.  It’s a free download, feel free to get a copy, make yourself an avatar and hang out with Rorlins and Adeldia (who go by Rollins Hawker and Kaylee Ninetails) at Santir Island Performance Center.  Once you’re in world just do a search for the “Place” Santir and you’ll find us there.  Show starts at 9 Eastern.

Fera commented back in our thread about being addicted that she was pretty sure her friend was indeed a WoW addict.  So how do you approach this?  I know this will be an email feature this week (not a show topic persay) but I’m curious what everyone else has to say on this to help us kick ideas around.

So there’s the real question there:  How do you have an intervention for someone who is, per the definitions, addicted to online gaming?

Part of me likes the idea of using a talking dog ala those new anti-pot commericials floating around where the dog goes up to the girl and says “I don’t like it when you get high”.  But, sadly, talking dogs seem in short supply at PetLand so something else is in order.

On a serious note I’m a little stumped for now.  Guess I’m off to use my Search Fu.  How about you?

This is what we’re looking at for our next podcast with so much already out there and we being simple followers of trends.  I had tha great idea of opening this up for some discussion before we get too into things and see what everyone that frequents this website thought as part of our pre-show discussion.  Feel free to discus your take on this all over the internet topic.

For me, I don’t think “addiction” is the right word.  That implies it’s a medical condition tied directly to the gaming.  I think compulsion might be better as I tend to see online gaming addictions more as symptoms of bigger problems.  How about you?

Due to Adeldia being out of town this weekend our next weekly show is going to be delayed by a day or two while we get settled in. Fear not, Episode 7: Roleplaying 102 is on it’s way and should be available for download by Tuesday this week. Your patience is appreciated.

Our next episode is recorded and should be ready to upload tomorrow.  Just needs some extra mastering as for some reason Adeldia’s computer records faster than Rorlins’.  So aside from checking sound levels every major segment has to be manually sync’d.  As a preview we spend most of this episode talking about what to consider before you set out to convert our other half into a WoWer.  We had intended to talk about how to convert them, but at the 40 minute mark we still a lot of ground to cover so think of this as part 1 in a series.

Due to techincal difficulties we’re having trouble getting Episode 2 onto the website.  I’m not sure if it’s the size of the file (we have a 55 min show this week) or if it’s the compression codex I used or if it’s just general weather-related wonkiness.  But to our listeners who were disappointed that there was no update this weekend I assure you it’s coming.

Our inaugural program is coming soon and will be focused around who we are, what our game experience has been prior to coming to the WoW community, and what our focus will be in general as well as future pod casts. For those that can’t wait here’s a preview of some highlights:

We are Adeldia (the elf) and Rorlins (the dwarf) on the Blackwater Raiders RP server. We joined the game in early Novemeber of 2006. Our gaming pedigree includes time playing City of Heroes, Everquest 1 and 2, and Ultima Online. In addition to MMO’s we game together having played such games as Neverwinter Nights, Cossacks, and The Sims 1 and 2 (though that’s not much of a multiplayer experience).

We are a real life married couple, having exchanged vows Oct 19, 2002 and hope that as new players to WoW we can share some fresh perspectives. New players will hopefully be able to find a point of common experience, while veterans we hope to entertain with a different look at The World.
