Episode 30: What We’re Watching

The new season of TV is on us!  Touching base on all the new TV in the Sci Fi and Fantasy genres that we plan to watch we make some predictions on what to expect this season, at least from our point of view.  We also defended our “bashing” of Eragon, and took a new look at laws about violent video games thanks to some listener emails.  Kodath makes his return to the show with a new regular news segment about goings on in WoW

From listening to your podcast, I would say the first vampire detective show would not be Angel, but an old program called Forever Knight. A Vampire investigating crimes while working as a night shift police detective.

  2. Weslocke Says:

John, that’s actually the main thing I was popping on here to tell them. But to expand on that, Forever Knight (92-96) was remade from a failed pilot (’Nick Knight’ in ‘89) which starred Rick Springfield. (And was actually pretty good. I will always remember him walking out of a 24hr tanning salon and the girl saying “You know, he comes in here every night but he never seems to get any darker”)

Also you guys, good idea on starting Dr Who… but if you do, try to go back a couple of seasons to the Christopher Eccleston series just so you have more background at least. That way you get introduced to Capt Jack (among others), which will help in Torchwood. And for that matter, Torchwood is introduced and plays a part in the two David Tennant seasons.

As for Torchwood, it’s neat… but after a while the whole ‘How much scifi sleaze and sex can we cram in a prime-time hour” gets a little old. I was hoping for an X-Files style SF show, not porn with bad teeth.

Btw, I’m really enjoying your new format. :-)

Hello E&D, wanted to recommend another show I think you may enjoy. Life, comes on right after Bionic Woman. Catch an episode online at NBC.com and see what you think. It has a solid center, but is tilted off the axis just enough to be quirky and interesting, I think. Especially dig the whole Zen aura of the main character, something I can relate to well. Well, there it is. Another groovy podcast, and all my best to you all!

Thanks for the positive feedback on the new format guys! It’s good to hear that people like our babblings, even if Ady keeps jumping on my mike. :)

Dark Shadows that we babbled about too, and it actually was on in the 60’s first: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dark_Shadows

Thanks for the recommendations guys. Not sure how we’ll manage to keep up with all of them but we can sure try!
