Episode 6: Show Notes
Some notes on this week’s podcast:
- Shout outs to our friends Shanti, and Chris and Daktari. Now can someone please tell us which direction toilets turn south of the equator?
Topic for the week was on the Valentine’s Event “Love is in the Air” currently running through Thursday of this week. If you need more help then Adeldia could give, then here’s the link to the Thottbot article: http://www.thottbot.com/?qu=9028
In the Found on the Forums we talked about girl gamers and why it is that some women in particular are afraid to group outside their comfort zone of immediate friends and guildies. If you have an opinion please shoot us an email and let us know where you’re coming from.
Adeldia’s Animals of Azeroth was a talk about the fact that there seem to be two highly divergent lines of animal body plans, one with 4 limbs and one with 6. She spent some time on this so if you’d like to know more, or some links to more information let us know and we’ll get those posted.
Our email bag was mostly full of emails asking “How do I find RPers?” so that will be next week’s topic.
A news flash though, and it didn’t make the podcast, but our friends Garnil and Pamine set out to form the guild “Sterling”. It will be a light RP guild and quite possibly a good place for rookie RPers to start out. We’ll keep you posted.
And as one more preview resource here’s the LJ community for WoW RPers: http://community.livejournal.com/wowrp/
And again thanks to Great Big Sea for the opening titles to the show.

Another wonderful show. The event this weekend was pretty neat. Thanks for the rundown.
Oh, my knight sponsor took me to the Dwarven Airport and hill town this weekend. So once you two get your mounts I can take you there. It’s pretty cool to be the only people there.
Also, go to Feralas to get Darnassus rep. Do the quests there. I’ve also heard killing ogres helps. Oh and Minsc has the gerbil that goes for the eyes.
See ya.

Minsc and Boo stand ready!
Also, I want to point out that *of course* snakes used to have legs! Remember when God cursed the snake to crawl on its belly in the dust? Not to argue about evolution, but just to observe that the author(s) of Genesis were paying attention.
Anyway, good show this week. This was the second time I listened, and I was pretty impressed. I thought this week’s chatter was confident, natural, and fun, and I also enjoyed the information about the game.

I just got around to listening to this one tonight because I’ve been more interested in the role-playing discussions. I have a few comments about the evolution of the animals of Azeroth. Before you freak out, I am a paleontologist, so I’m not going to flame you about evolution. I completely agree!
Okay, the Sarcopterygiians (lobe-finned fishes) that are the likely progenitors of terrestrial animals had up to eight digits. Five is a happy number for Mammalia but is not a ubiquitous trait across Animalia.
Another important bit of information is that the Naga are High Elves. This means that they were originally four limbed terrestrial humanoids. Here’s where Rorlin’s comment about how it’s possible that a deity (devs) put stuff there to mess with us. In Azeroth, I completely agree!
Additionally, the number of limbs is determined by HOX genes. This means that while it may be simple to change the number of digits, it is EXTREMELY difficult to change the number of limbs. Supposing the creatures of Azeroth follow the same genetic rules Terran critters do, anything with six limbs had six-limbed ancestors. The common ancestor between six-limbed creatures and four-limbed creatures is SO distant as to be barely mentionable. The fact that they may look like each other is an example of convergent evolution.
One important caveat about Azerothian fauna - not everything is from Azeroth! Draenei and orcs are aliens, Titans are aliens, Naaru are aliens… Space travel and consequently biotic “seeding” is certainly possible. After all, the dwarves believe that they were created by the Titans, who are aliens. Therefore, it’s possible that the dwarves are aliens as well. We only know with certainty that the elves and tauren are native Azerothians.
Anyway, that’s my piece on the biology of Azeroth. Keep up the segment! I really enjoy it!
